K. Values and Ethics of Leadership
Reflection: Making the ethical choice does not always mean you are making the easiest choice. Ethical practices relate to decision making based on moral principles and for individuals that is subjectively interpreted. This does not mean that your staff should all have the same moral guidelines, rather, I am just recognizing that it can be difficult to appease to all your staff. For this reason, staff meetings can be a positive experience for some colleagues, but a negative for others. To reduce the spread of these negative emotions, it is important to remember to keep an open line of communication with staff and if necessary, have a small group conversation. This will ensure that any staff that disagreed with a final decision feels they have had an opportunity to voice their concern. This would also help to direct conversations in a productive manner and keep communication professional.
