D. Policy and Law
Reflection: Before I started my master’s program my knowledge of this connection reached as far as IEPs, 504s, and the necessity of following these plans with fidelity. Covid-19 has brought about a variety of changed to education this year; some of which may be the new norm once it has passed. This year has truly shown me the relationship between education and law.
At a national, state and even local level, policies and mandates are being placed into schools and communities. Some of these changes have shown to be possible improvements to education, for example, some students seem to excel when given the opportunity to learn from home. On the other hand, when our district returned to in-person learning the classroom management of contact tracing and reminded students to wear their masks properly have taken away from learning time. The relationship between education and law is most successfully kept when both sides have a seat at the table with proper representation. I hope that amidst all the chaos and change that has come about in this last year that there will be some sort of silver lining or epiphany for the education world brought about by lawmakers and politicians. |
